Storm Henk flood recovery grants
Owners of properties flooded as a result of Storm Henk are potentially eligible for financial aid in the form of Property Resilience Grants.
The Storm Henk Community and Business Recovery Grants scheme has now closed and we will not be accepting any new applications.
If you have any questions regarding existing applications and payments please email [email protected].
Property flood resilience grant
Property flood resilience refers to measures installed to help make people and property less vulnerable to future flooding and lessen the time it takes to get back to normal. However, it is not possible to entirely remove the risk of flooding to a property.
On behalf of the Department for Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), we are making a grant available if your property in Leicester was previously identified as being flooded internally because of storm Henk.
Please note
- There are strict funding criteria which need to be met.
- Grant payments will only be reimbursed once approved measures have been completed and evidence of this has been provided and approved within the set timescale.
- A property survey is required as part of the scheme.
- The property owner is responsible for arranging the property survey and appointing a contractor to carry out the works.
- Grants may be pooled towards community resilience measures with prior approval from the council.
Step 1
The property owner of the property identified by us signs up for the scheme on the form provided. If the property owner has not been sent the forms and believes they are eligible for the grant, please email [email protected]
Step 2
The property owner appoints a surveyor (refer to guidance notes). We will need to check the surveyor you are proposing to appoint and their planned timescales for completing the survey.
Step 3
The property owner appoints a contractor (refer to guidance notes). We will need to review the flood resilience measures proposed within your survey and approve the contractor you are proposing to appoint.
Step 4
The property owner submits the claim within the time specified.
Note: There may be a need to visit the property to audit the installation of measures.
Documentation for the claim:
- Test certificates and evidence that the agreed measures have been installed (such as photos and product specifications).
- Post installation surveys if carried out.
- Invoices for surveys and the installation works.
- Bank details for payment.
Step 5
We will reimburse grants up to a maximum of £5,000 (Inclusive of VAT). The property owner is responsible for the ongoing management and maintenance of the measures.
