Domestic abuse safe accommodation strategy
Our safe accommodation strategy 2022-2025 sets out our plans to provide safe places to live for victims of domestic abuse.
Why we need the safe accommodation strategy
We need to ensure that victims of domestic abuse have access to adequate and appropriate support, and in particular safe accommodation for them and their children, as defined under part 4 of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021. Housing need amongst domestic abuse victim-survivors in Leicester is showing a year-on-year increase and is higher than the national rate.
Our vision
Through the Leicester Domestic Abuse Locality Partnership Board formed in October 2021, we will work together with our partners to fulfil the specific accommodation related obligations of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
Our objectives
The safe accommodation delivery plan will work to four themed priority areas from 2022 to 2025:
- Establishing the Leicester Domestic Abuse Locality Partnership Board
- Improving our understanding of need in Leicester, and barriers to meeting those needs
- Developing and supporting the workforce who are responding to the accommodation-related support needs of domestic abuse victim-survivors in Leicester
- Expanding the accessibility and suitability of the safe accommodation available in Leicester. This includes culturally appropriate engagement activity and promotion of available services.
