Oral health
Leicester Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA). Health and social care needs associated with oral health.
Dental and oral health is an essential part of overall health and well-being. Poor oral hygiene can lead to dental cavities, tooth loss and gum disease, but can also extend to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that oral diseases affect nearly 3.5 billion people worldwide. Adopting a strong oral hygiene routine that is practiced daily from an early age is recommended to mitigate against poor oral health from childhood into adulthood.
The following chapter further details the level of need in the population, current services in place, project service use, any service gaps and recommendations for commissioners.
