Sustainable Development Goals
In February 2021, we made a formal commitment to adopt United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will help us address the global challenges we are facing.
What are the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals?
There are 17 goals, which were developed as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives of everyone, everywhere. They were adopted by all UN member states in 2015, as part of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which set out a 15-year plan to achieve the goals.
The goals recognise that ending poverty goes hand-in hand with strategies that build economic growth and address social needs such as education, health and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and protecting the environment.

How are the goals relevant to Leicester?
Our vision is for Leicester to be a proud, dynamic, diverse and innovative city – and one with a shared civic pride and identity.
We aim to work with others across the city to tackle injustice and inequality, as well as the threat of the climate emergency, and as a result make Leicester a safer, happier and fairer place to live and work.
