Health and safety for tenants

To ensure the health and safety of tenants of social housing, each landlord is required by the Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023 to have a designated health and safety lead. In Leicester, the role is assigned to Head of Service, Gurjit Minhas.

If the health and safety lead is unable to act due to absence or illness, we will identify an alternative person for that period of time.

What does a health and safety lead do?

  1. monitor the Housing Division’s compliance with health and safety requirements.
  2. assess risks of failure to comply with health and safety requirements.
  3. notify the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) of
    1. any risk of failing to meet any health and safety and safety requirements,
    2. any material failings by the Housing Division to comply with health and safety requirements.
  4. provide advice to on addressing risks and failures to the Division to comply with health and safety requirements.
  5. gas safety checks
  6. water hygiene advice

What is the lead not responsible for?

  • Responsible for the registered provider’s compliance with health and safety requirements, or
  • Liable for a failure by the registered provider to comply with health and safety requirements.
