Melton Road Corridor Improvements
Leicester City Council have been working through a programme of highway works on Melton Road to improve this important corridor into the city.
We have recently completed major road resurfacing works on Melton Road between the Checketts Road and Loughborough Road junctions. We have resurfaced the inbound bus lane carriageway between Troon Way and Lanesborough Road and also carried out improvements to bus stop facilities.
Another major project completed in August 2024 involved improvements to the Heritage Cycle Track and footways on the inbound dual carriageway between Troon Way and the junction with Sandringham Avenue. Side road junctions have also been improved and a new Toucan crossing constructed, which allows cyclists to cross Melton Road safely alongside pedestrians.
These major schemes totalling £1.625m have been complemented by smaller scale works on Melton Road such as painting bollards, decluttering signs, clearing low level branches from trees and carrying out minor footway and kerb repairs.
Project update
The next phase of improvements is to begin a programme of footway maintenance works, which is due to start in September 2024.
