Disabled parking at home

Blue badge holders can apply to have an advisory disabled parking bay near their home, if our eligibility criteria is met.

Am I automatically eligible if I have a Blue Badge?

No, you do not automatically qualify for a disabled parking bay if you are a Blue Badge holder.  You will need to meet certain conditions to qualify.

What the markings mean

Disabled bays are marked in white. Having a disabled parking bay outside your home does not guarantee that space for you or the disabled person in your household. Advisory disabled bays are not enforced. They are advisory only and rely on the goodwill of other motorists.

Where can I ask for a parking bay?

You can only ask for an advisory parking bay near your home. It cannot be at any other location such as a friend or family member’s home. The minimum length for a bay is 6.6 metres.

Are you eligible to apply?

You can apply for a bay, if:

  • you are a Blue Badge holder
  • the vehicle is frequently used by the Blue Badge holder
  • the vehicle is registered to a permanent resident at the Blue Badge holder's address
  • You do not have an off-street parking facility, for example, a driveway, a garage, or a hard-standing area on or near your property, or your own dropped kerb.

View our full scheme rules.

How much does it cost?

  • New bay: £220
  • Remark existing bay: £220

How do I apply?

Can I appeal if my applications is rejected?

There is no appeal process. The outcome from your application is final.

How do I report a change of circumstances?

If your circumstances change, for example, you change address, no longer eligible for a Blue Badge, or if there is no longer a car registered to a permanent resident of the property – please send us an email with the following details:

  • Name of Blue Badge holder
  • Full address
  • Reference number if known
  • Blue Badge number
  • Contact details
  • Give details of the change, e.g. moved address/Blue Badge no longer valid/no longer have a car/new off-street parking created

Email all the details above to [email protected]. We will only respond to emails letting us know of change of circumstances.

Frequently asked questions

We will usually consult neighbours prior to any markings being made if they are to be overlapped. A bay marking can only go ahead if there is no objection from neighbours.

A disabled parking bay cannot be marked across a dropped kerb or other entrance, or where there are waiting restrictions. Also, a bay may not be approved due to road safety issues.

Your parking bay may be removed if a resident parking scheme is implemented. You will only be refunded if the parking bay has been in place for less than a year.

You will not be charged for the removal of a parking bay if it is no longer required or no longer valid.
