About the Centre

At Climb Leicester you will find a full range of roped climbing and bouldering from relatively easy challenges for those new to the sport to fiendishly difficult climbs capable of testing the best climbers around. The centre has three different climbing areas each offering something different.

Tower

The Tower area is mostly a lead climbing wall. However, there are always top ropes on the first five panels, with dual lower-off points at the top for those that wish to lead climb them. It has 15 lines ranging from 11-13 meters in height, with the routes on the overhanging panels 15 meters long. Routes in the Tower range from set routes to feature problems with flakes, pockets, and cracks.

On average there are about 50 routes ranging from F3+ to F8a.

Bloc

The Bloc is a fully top roped area, with 12 top roped lines. The height of the walls ranges from four to five meters. The Bloc is ideal for beginners and groups, and it is great for working on footwork and technique.

The routes in this area range from set routes to feature problems: there is a chimney, a slab and vertical walls with flakes, pockets, bridging and laybacks.

On average there are 30 routes ranging from F2+ to F6a.

Training Area

Also Located in The Bloc is our dedicated training area; here you will find a campus board, finger boards, pull-up bars and TRX stations.

Bouldering Wall

The bouldering area hosts roughly 25 set problems and a further 15 feature problems, it is re-set regularly. The routes in this area range from set routes to feature problems using flakes, pockets, and laybacks.

Grades range from V0 to V8.

Course information

Adult Intro to Climbing course

This course aims to teach you the required skills to use the roped climbing walls as an independent climber. On the course you will learn how to put on your harness, tie in with a suitable climbing knot and belay safely (control the rope for another climber).

Adult Learn to Lead climb course

To learn to lead climb you must be proficient at top rope climbing, belaying, and tying into your harness. Lead climbing is a more advanced skill, and we recommend that you are climbing F6a or above before taking this course.

Learn to Lead courses are arranged as needed. Please talk to the Climb Leicester team to register your interest or book an instructor.

Parent and child course

This course is aimed at parents who wish to learn how to look after junior climbers on the top-rope walls, but who do not wish to climb themselves. During the course you and your junior will learn how to use a climbing harness, connect to the climbing rope safely, and how to belay (control the rope for another climber).

Junior climbing lessons

We run junior climbing lessons following the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) – a nationwide scheme that aims to develop skills in a safe and structured environment. It covers both indoor roped climbing as well as bouldering, providing participants with a solid foundation in climbing techniques, safety awareness, and personal progression. We have a minimum age of 8 for our NICAS lessons.

Frequently asked questions

If you have a friend who is an experienced climber they can bring you, but please note that members can bring a maximum of two guests per visit. If this is not the case, you can book a private lesson, join one of our taster sessions, or book one of our intro courses. Our instructors will guide you through your first climbing experience and let you know where to go from there.

It depends!

If you want to have a go at bouldering, then you can just turn up any time during our open hours and our staff will give you an induction to the bouldering wall (included with your entry fee). However, if you would like to take part in one of our taster sessions or courses then you must pre-book (payment will be taken at the time of booking).

If you already know how to climb, then you will need to complete a quick competency test on your first visit. We will check that you can fit a harness, tie in ready to climb, and belay a climber. Please contact us before your first visit to ensure that a member of staff will be available.

Climbing is more about ability than age, but our minimum recommend age is 4.

All juniors must be actively supervised by a registered adult member or qualified instructor. An adult member may supervise two juniors or novices bouldering or on the roped walls.

There is no upper age for getting involved with climbing.

No! But you will need to stay and supervise them climbing (maximum two juniors per adult member). If they are attending one of our junior climbing lessons, then you can drop them off and pick them up after the class.

Adult members can supervise two novice or junior climbers – you would be responsible for their safe use of the climbing wall, and they will not be able to belay for you unless another adult member is supervising them.

Any junior climbing here will require a consent form completed by their parent or legal guardian before they can be allowed to climb. Junior consent forms are available from the Climb Leicester reception during our open hours, or they can be emailed to you to print and complete at home.
