Hire rooms at Town Hall

Town Hall was built in the Queen Anne style in 1875 on the site of the old cattle market. It forms one side of the attractive Town Hall Square; with its majestic fountain and plush Victorian style interiors.

Rooms available to hire

Council chamber

  • accommodate up to 180 people (including the first floor public gallery)
  • for training events/smaller meetings - central well area can be set as a small boardroom or presentation table
  • fixed projector
  • wall speakers
  • wireless conferencing microphones
  • portable hearing loops available upon request

Wheelchair accessibility is limited to the outer level of the council chamber or to the fixed top bench.

Ante room

  • accommodates between 16 to 20 people
  • large boardroom table
  • located adjacent to the council chamber

Tea room

  • accommodates 120 in a reception layout or 40 seating
  • Large 1920s reception room with moveable furniture

Oak room

  • accommodates up to 30 to 90 people in a meeting, reception or theatre style setting

Courtroom one

  • fixed seating which accommodates 100 people

Fountain room

  • accommodates varied seating arrangements for 30 people

Room 1.24

  • accommodates up to 30 people
  • ideal for training or reception space
  • wall mounted screen with speakers

Room 1.21

  • ideal for training purposes, accommodates 12 people around the boardroom table
  • wall mounted screen with speakers
  • can be used as a breakout space for room 1.24 (above)

Committee room one and committee room two

  • both equipped with period boardroom table
  • accommodates between 10 and 16 people

Parking

Limited on-street parking is available nearby. The nearest council-owned car parks are Newark Street and Upper Brown Street.
