The Building Control team administers the Building Regulations and maintains standards of health, safety and energy conservation in most building schemes, including new buildings, alterations and extensions. Our Building Control Service provides (through checking of submitted plans and information, and subsequent site inspections) an impartial, objective assessment of your work.
Our aim is to assist you in providing high quality buildings in a time scale which keeps your costs to a minimum by providing a fast, efficient and cost effective building control service.

Planning Portal
The Planning Portal web site provides a wide range of Building Regulations information, and advice on how to apply for various types of common building work. It also provides links to the Building Regulations and the Approved Documents.
Planning consents
Building works and changes of use usually need planning permission. Please see our Planning pages for further information. Also, special planning controls apply to conservation areas and listed buildings.
Private drains and sewers
Note that from 1st October 2011 the responsibility for most private drains and sewers was transferred to Severn Trent Water (STW). If you intend to build within 3 metres of one of their drains or sewers you will need to consult with STW.
