What happens on collection day?

Image of the Orange Bag recycling truck

Your black wheelie bin and your orange recycling bags are collected each week on the same day.

To find out your collection day please visit Biffa Leicester's website. If you are unable to identify your collection day, please contact us

Wheeled bins and your orange bags should be ready for collection at 7am on  collection day.  Bins and bags should be presented at the ‘Kerbside’ (i.e. no greater than 2 metres from the edge of the property) or an agreed collection point.

The lid of a wheeled bin must be closed and no side refuse other than the orange bags should be presented for collection.

Assisted Collections

Elderly and/or disabled residents who are unable to handle their bins for presentation at the kerbside can request an Assisted Collections service.

Hazardous Waste

Leicester City Council does not collect Hazardous Waste from householders. Please see the Hazardous Waste pages for items that should not be put in your wheeled bin. It is the personal responsibility of the householder to make arrangements with a private contractor in order to get Hazardous or Special waste removed.

The Ball Mill

The waste collected is then taken to the Ball Mill in Beaumont Leys for processing and further recyclables are extracted through this process. You can find out more about this process here.
